Zainab bint al-Harith: Jewish woman who posioned Mohammad
There is a significant tradition involving an attempted assassination that occurred three years prior to his death. Following the Battle of Khaybar (628 CE), a Jewish woman named Zainab bint al-Harith prepared a meal of roasted lamb for Muhammad and his companions, which she had laced with poison.
Muhammad took a bite of the meat but quickly spat it out, realizing it was poisoned. One of his companions, Bishr ibn al-Bara, ate more of the meat and died shortly after.
While Muhammad survived the initial incident, he reportedly mentioned during his final illness that he still felt the effects of that poison. Because of this, some Islamic traditions view him as a martyr (shahid), believing the toxin eventually contributed to his physical decline years later.
